Safety Tips for Social Workers and Others in the Helping Professions

I received an e-mail today from retired Vancouver police officer Charles Ennis inviting me to check out his blog called The Safe Approach Weblog: Controlling Risk for Workers in the Helping Professions. It’s a great resource for social workers and other professionals whose clients are potentially violent. He’s got tips for planning and preparation before your home visits, suggestions for monitoring your environment while you’re in the field, and a Safety Assessment Checklist. According to his blog, about 30% of us can expect to be assaulted over the course of our career.

He’s teamed up with CPS social worker Janet Douglas to write The Safe Approach: Controlling Risk for Workers in the Helping Professions. You can find out more by taking the link below.
