Social Work: A Depressing Career?
Just got an e-mail from my brother which read, “Congratulations! You’re #3!” Enclosed was an article about the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration study entitled Depression among Adults Employed Full-Time, by Occupational Category.
According to the report, workers in the Community & Social Services category tied for the third highest rates of depression (defined as a major depressive episode in the past year) among the adult workers aged 18-64 surveyed. Interestingly enough, workers with Life, Physical, and Social Science careers had the 2nd lowest reported rates of depression. Now they’ve got me contemplating the differences between having a career in Social Services and one in Social Science!
